The Golden Purpose
I went to a party the other night and ran into Elaine, my editor for these articles. She asked if I had written December’s article yet and I told her that I did not have a topic. Later after one of the yoga teachers had given a talk on the purpose of yoga; Elaine said, why don’t you write about the purpose of life? And here I thought that the purpose of yoga talk had been a lofty talk.
You know she really irritates me sometimes by questioning what I write or telling me it makes no sense or giving me great suggestions for topics like this one, which scares the crap out of me. How can I possibly write about the purpose of life? What gives me the credentials to tackle such a profound and daunting question?
Well I have learned that our fears are nothing more than a state of mind and the only way to get past them is to face them head on or sometimes you step around them and run like heck. Therefore, I am hitting the ground running with this one. As far as the credentials go, I guess we are all working on a Ph.D. in living life and I have been studying very hard for many years, as you have also.
When thinking about “What is the purpose of life?” many questions arise, for example Is there a single purpose or multiple purposes for each one of us? Is there a collective purpose or do we all have just our own individual purpose? We could expand our inquiry around the purpose of our life to include many things, I am sure, but for the aims of this article, I am going to keep it more focused. First, what is our common or collective purpose, and second what is our individual purpose? Having said that, I would ask is there a difference between the collective and individual purpose? Based on what I have experienced so far I would have to say no. Therefore, I can only conclude that there is only one elevated purpose for all, The Golden Purpose.
I do understand that we have other earthly purposes; we may have felt a calling to become a teacher, scientist, priest, mother or father. However, I am talking about a higher spiritual purpose. One that will change each and everyone’s lives forever. Something that once embraced will allow us to raise the collective vibration so high that we can then create the world that we all desire.
A couple of months ago I wrote the following in “What is your MASTER goal in life?” “Each one of us has a purpose here on earth; to seek our master goal. I believe that this master goal is common to all. It can be described in different ways but ultimately it comes down to this, at least from this writer’s opinion. It is to begin connecting on a deeper spiritual level to who we really are; to work on ourselves and let go of those things that no longer serve our highest good.”
This is our golden purpose: to let go and heal those wounds that keep us bound. How can we be of God and yet not be connected to God at all times? This connection is always there; always open but we do not allow it to flow freely. We get in the way of our own divinity. We get in the way of expressing who we really are.
As human beings, we have free will. Having free will means that we have the ability to make choices in our lives. To change the direction of our life any time we want. We may choose to glide down the paved road, turn onto the cobblestone path or take the road with potholes and unforeseen pitfalls. Each way is right because we learn from each choice. Becoming aware of those things that no longer serve you will give you clarity to make wiser choices. Moreover, in this way you can live your life more fully and with fewer struggles. Each time you make a better choice your vibration raises. You get more clarity and this opens a stronger connection to your higher power.
Because we have free choice we can delay our life’s purpose and we often do. The interesting thing is: when we do not follow this path of letting go, our troubles become bigger, life become harder with more struggle. This is life nudging you, pushing you, or clobbering you to let go, to change, raise your vibration and move towards your golden purpose. Each moment we have a choice to move closer to what we want or closer to what we don’t want. It is often a difficult task to make the right choice when you listen to your head. However if you connect with your heart, your divinity, the higher purpose -- you will always make the best choice for that moment and it will move you closer to fulfilling your Golden Purpose.
