What Goes Up…: Letting Go of Emotions

I awoke to the sound of the neighbor’s car starting at 5:38am, a little earlier than I like to get up; nevertheless, this new neighbor has an older car with loud mufflers and likes to warm it up with a heavy foot on the gas before driving off. As I lay there, I thought I would connect with source, divine creator, god or whatever term you like. I have begun to do this consciously in my work by visualizing a cord going up to the heavens from the crown of my head and grounding down into the earth from my tailbone. Since I was lying on my back at the time, this funny thought came, what is up and what is down? I mean that if I am standing up, up is out the top of my head, right. However, what if I am lying down is it still out the top of my head? I know this sounds a little crazy.

Then I began to think about the emotional rollercoaster I have been on for the past several months.  I never like going through these times because it is always much easier when things are going more smoothly.  However, I now recognize the value in riding the rollercoaster and notice the learnings from each of these rides over the years. I have learned that if I do not fight (resist) these experiences and feelings, I can use them to learn about myself, thereby avoiding the repeat of similar experiences.

I can change by letting go of emotions, energies and even physical issues that no longer serve my life. One of the great things about these teachings is that once they are learned, the highs and lows come closer together and the duration of each experience is shortened. I do not believe that we can avoid these experiences or somehow get to a place of sustained peace in our lives unless we ride the rollercoaster. Do not misunderstand when I talk about a place of sustained peace: this does not mean the ride is over, it only means that our perception and experience of the ride has changed. This allows us to enjoy the ride in a new way and we can remain in peace much easier. Remember that life is a journey that requires commitment, practice and change for us to be happy and successful. If we show up for life, life will show up for us. This is the beauty of how our universe works. Whenever we are feeling stressed or down, there is the opportunity to turn this around. What goes down will also come up.
